A dental crown has been placed on a tooth by Dr. Edford Clark to protect it and restore it to its former shape, size, and strength. But now what? How do you care for your dental crown, and thus maintain your oral health?

After having a dental crown placed, as at any other time, it is important to uphold proper oral hygiene. This includes twice daily brushing and daily flossing of all the teeth. Take special care around the area where your dental crown and tooth meet the gums. Rinsing with an antibacterial mouthwash at least once daily can also help uphold the health of your crowned tooth and your smile. Another way to care for your smile and dental crown is to attend your regular dental checkups.

To further care for your crown, avoid negative dental habits, including but not limited to:

– Grinding or clenching your teeth
– Biting your fingernails or other non-food items
– Chewing ice
– Opening packages with the teeth
